This is the UFC 323 live blog for Brandon Moreno vs. Tatsuro Taira, the main card flyweight bout Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Moreno (23-8-2) once again defends his No. 5 spot at 125 pounds in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings. “The Assassin Baby” is coming off of wins against would-be contenders Steve Erceg and Amir Albazi, and hopes to earn his chance to become a three-time UFC champion. Deep into his career, Moreno remains a threat to the elite of the division after going to split-decision losses against Brandon Royval and champion Alexandre Pantoja prior to his bounce-back win streak.
Taira (17-1) rebounded nicely from his first loss, defeating Hyun Sung Park this past August to improve to 7-1 inside the octagon. The Japanese grappling specialist doesn’t turn 25 until January and has all the makings of a future champion. The question is whether he’s developed enough at this stage of his career to bump off Moreno.
