When is Cyber Monday 2025?
Cyber Monday lands on December 1, 2025, marking one of the latest in quite some time. That means this Cyber Week will have a distinctly Christmassy feeling. Even if you're not one to celebrate the day, there should still be plenty of good deals to be had.
What should I look for in a Cyber Monday SSD deal?
You'll want to forearm yourself with the right knowledge concerning what makes an SSD deal a good one.
To begin with, consider how much capacity is being offered. While I suggest that you aim for 1 TB or more, don't discount 512 GB drives completely. That amount of storage is fine to use as a boot drive with some room for games. It's better than HDD for that purpose, too—a lot better. Though even 1 TB can feel slim with a few of the big COD-like games installed.
The latest and greatest games do eat into an SSD's storage capacity, though, so if you're looking for a second drive to host games or you just want a nicer upgrade, then stick to 1 TB or 2 TB offers.
Another thing that separates how fast an SSD will operate at is the type of interface it uses to connect to the PC. Pretty much all of the deals for an internal SSD will use an M.2 slot and four lanes of PCI Express (x4 PCIe) to handle the data. There are also older SATA drives if you don't have an NVMe spot on your PC, though do check as they've been pretty common for years now.
All M.2 slots are equal, but the same isn't true for PCIe.
The slowest SSDs will use PCIe 3.0 but most are PCIe 4.0 based, and it's twice as fast as the former. Then there's PCIe 5.0, which is even faster still, and mostly pointless for gaming. Plus they're very expensive right now. If you have an older gaming PC, then the motherboard might still be using PCIe 3.0 but the good news is that you can still fit a PCIe 4.0 SSD.
This is because the technology is backwards compatible and although it won't be able to run at its full speed, you'll be able to take advantage of the better tech when you upgrade to the latest AMD or Intel processors.
Make sure you check the specific details about the interface, though. Really cheap PCIe 3.0 SSDs will sometimes be limited to two PCIe lanes, which means they'll run at half the standard speed. And keep an eye out for the NVMe label, as this means it will definitely use PCIe and not the super-slow SATA interface.
In short, aim for a 1 TB or 2 TB NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD, and you should be absolutely fine.
