LSU football is open to a reunion with former head coach Ed Orgeron, according to a report from CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz.

The report comes as the Lane Kiffin to LSU buzz picks up steam. Kiffin and Orgeron have worked together at multiple stops before, including Tennessee and USC.

Kiffin, the current head coach of Ole Miss, is atop LSU's head coaching board. Members of the Kiffin camp visited Baton Rouge earlier this week and LSU's offer to Kiffin is significant. Kiffin is expected to decide on his future in the coming days as pressure mounts from all sides.

If Kiffin is out the door, Ole Miss wants to know so it can implement contingency plans for a College Football Playoff run and begin its own search for a new head coach.

Orgeron was LSU's head coach from 2016-21. He was at the helm for LSU's 15-0 national championship-winning season in 2019. Orgeron struggled to sustain that success in 2020 and 2021 and agreed to part ways with LSU. Orgeron has been out of coaching, but recently said he wants back in.

Orgeron won't be picky on the job hunt. He's willing to listen to all offers and said he'd be open to a return to LSU.

Orgeron's head coaching career was up and down, but as an assistant, he was one of the most consistent recruiters in the country. Orgeron remains well-connected in Louisiana and on the national recruiting scene.
