Six-time World Superbike champion Jonathan Rea will return to Honda as a test rider for the 2026 season.

Rea, who retired from full-time motorcycle racing at the end of the 2025 season, will take part in selected Endurance World Championship racing with the team.

The 38-year-old was previously with Honda between 2007 and 2014, amassing 42 podiums, 15 of which were race wins.

Those achievements put him third on the all-time list of most successful Honda riders.

Rea then won his six successive World Superbike titles with Kawasaki from 2015-2020 before finishing his glittering 17-year career with Yamaha, although the Northern Ireland rider was denied a dream end as he was ruled out of his final race in October with a knee injury.

He will now embark on a new challenge with Honda and Rea said he "can't wait to get started".

"From the moment HRC shared their plans and the new role they envision for me, I was immediately excited to understand how I could contribute," he told the Honda website.

"It feels like a real full-circle moment to return to Honda, the manufacturer with which I gained my initial WorldSBK experience and my very first race win in the category.

"Although my role will be quite different from what I've been used to as a full-time racer, I'm highly motivated to embrace this new chapter.

"My aim is to bring all the experience and knowledge I've gained throughout my career and use it to support the development of the CBR1000RR-R and the Honda HRC factory team in the best possible way."
