The first games of the 2025-26 girls basketball season took place Friday. The Lubbock area boasted two state champions last year in Monterey and Nazareth, and plenty of teams have similar expectations this season.
Here are the players who will lead the way in the South Plains.
PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Ambrosia Cole, Sr., guard, Monterey
Cole, a Texas Tech commit, averaged 18.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.1 steals and 0.4 blocks for the Class 5A Division II champions. She made the TABC 5A all-state team.
LUBBOCK-AREA GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYERS TO WATCH IN 2025-26
Addisyn Bollinger, Sr., guard, Frenship
Bollinger, who is set to sign with Oklahoma State on Wednesday, averaged 13.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals. She shot 42.4% from the field, including 37.5% from 3-point range with 57 makes. She was District 2-6A offensive player of the year and made the TABC all-Region I-6A team.
Carli Buckley, Sr., guard, Shallowater
Buckley averaged 10.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 3.1 steals and 3.1 deflections to make the TABC all-Region I-3A team.
Macie Burkhead, Sr., post, New Deal
Burkhead averaged 17.3 points and 12.4 rebounds to make the TABC all-Region I-2A team. She was District 4-2A offensive player of the year.
Abby Dallas, Sr., guard, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty
Dallas averaged 12.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals to earn District 5-4A MVP.
Brocoiya Harris, Jr. forward, Slaton
Harris made the all-Region I-3A team after leading the Tigers to the second round.
Jada Jackson, Jr., post, Frenship
Jackson led the Tigers in points (14.9), rebounds (13.5), blocks (2.3) and shooting percentage (60.0%), in addition to 2.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game. She was District 2-6A MVP and made the TABC 6A all-state team.
Karsyn Lutrick, Sr., guard, Idalou
Lutrick was District 2-3A offensive player of the year and made the TABC 3A all-state team with averages of 17.5 points and 6.6 rebounds.
Presley Smith, So., guard, New Home
Smith burst on the scene as a TABC all-Region I-2A selection. She was named newcomer of the year by the A-J and District 4-2A.
Preslie Wall, Sr., guard, Idalou
Wall was a TABC 3A all-state selection after averaging 13.7 points and 3.8 assists.
Linley Wright, Sr., guard, Shallowater
Wright, a Cameron University commit, averaged 13.4 points, 2.4 assists, 3.6 steals and 5.2 deflections to make the TABC 3A all-state team. She was District 2-3A MVP and MVP of the Caprock Classic's small-school bracket.

Jace Chisum, Sr., guard, Jayton
Katy Evans, Sr., guard, Lubbock Christian
Natalie Garcia, Jr., guard, Denver City
Rylie Lester, So., forward, Ropes
Aubrey Rogers, Sr., guard, Plainview
Addison Schmidt, Jr., guard, Borden County
Presley Smith, Sr., guard, Levelland
