The second official College Football Playoff rankings of the 2025 season come out Tuesday night, and the Texas Tech football team will once again be included in the projected field.

Last week, the Red Raiders were eighth in the initial CFP rankings, one spot behind BYU. Then Texas Tech bulldozed the Cougars 29-7 to stake its claim as the one true elite team in the Big 12 Conference.

What will that do to Texas Tech's CFP rankings this week? We'll soon find out, but here's some intriguing projections from national media to wet your whistle until then.

Who is Texas Tech football projected to face in CFP?

ESPN: Georgia Tech and BYU

ESPN's duo of Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach can't quite agree on where the Red Raiders land. Bonagura has Texas Tech as the No. 6 seed and hosting Georgia Tech in the first round. Schlabach, meanwhile, has settled on the Red Raiders hosting ... No. 10 BYU in a rematch of Saturday's game. Considering this may be the Big 12 championship, that seems unlikely, though possible.

The Athletic: Texas

Oh buddy. Now things are getting spicy. Scott Dochterman of The Athletic has given the ultimate projection of 7-seed Texas Tech host 10-seed Texas inside Jones AT&T Stadium. However, this feels less likely than most for the simple fact Texas has games against Georgia and Texas A&M left. The Longhorns are more likely to be out of the CFP field all together than they are to be seeded behind the Red Raiders to make a trip to Lubbock possible. But it's fun to dream.

USA TODAY: James Madison, Georgia Tech, and Oregon

USA TODAY has four separate projections from Craig Meyer, Austin Curtright, Ehsan Kassim and John Leuzzi, each of which has different viewpoints. Meyer has Texas Tech seeded highest at No. 5, which would give the Red Raiders a home game against Group of 6 bid James Madison. Curtright and Kassim both have Tech at No. 6 and hosting 11-seed Georgia Tech and Leuzzi has the 8-seeded Red Raiders hosting 9-seed Oregon.

Sports Illustrated: Texas

Another Longhorns-to-Lubbock projection comes from Bryan Fischer of Sports Illustrated. He's got the Red Raiders as the No. 7 seed and Texas the No. 10.
