The Alabama Crimson Tide sent a major statement to the entire college basketball world following an authoritative victory over St. John's on Saturday.

The Tide outplayed the Red Storm for the majority of the contest, as Labaron Philon Jr. and Aden Holloway were nothing short of elite in the Alabama backcourt. Holloway had 21 points and four assists in the victory, and the former Auburn Tiger played a crucial role throughout the matchup. Philon Jr. was credited with a team-high 25 points along with three assists, and the star sophomore's efforts were enough to name him the SEC player of the week Monday.

Philon is expected to play a key role in the Alabama backcourt throughout the 2025-26 season. Philon was expected to enter the NBA Draft following his stellar freshman year, but the Alabama native ultimately chose to return to Tuscaloosa for his sophomore season. The talented guard is widely regarded as one of the best players in the country and Philon will now look to build upon his his excellent start to the season.

Alabama will host the Purdue Boilermakers in Coleman Coliseum on Thursday night, as the Tide find themselves in a crucial matchup with a top five opponent for the second game in a row.
