Defending champions Wigan Warriors head into Saturday’s Super League Grand Final as marginal favourites for victory, in what would be their third consecutive season lifting the trophy aloft, despite having finished behind their opponents in the table.

Matt Peet’s side head into the weekend having won six matches on the spin, winning their final five matches of the regular season before their 18-6 semi final victory over Leigh last weekend.

The reigning world champions won 21 of their 27 league games this season, losing six and finished as recorded the most match points throughout the season, two points shy of Shield winners Hull KR and three points above Leigh as they received a bye through to the semi final.

Hull KR head into weekend looking to be crowned Super League champions for the first time in 41 years.

The game is a rematch of the Grand Final from last season, which the Yorkshire side came out on the wrong side of in a 9-2 defeat, in what was their first Grand Final appearance since their 18-10 victory over Castleford back in 1984.

Willie Peters’ side have already won the double of League Leaders’ Shield and the Challenge Cup, putting them just one game away from winning a first ever treble.

The Robins were the last team to get the better of Wigan when the two sides last met back in August at the Brick Community Stadium, ending a run four straight defeats against the Warriors.
