Former British No.1 Laura Robson is reportedly in talks with TNT Sports over presenting this winter’s Ashes series.

Since retiring from tennis in 2022, the 31-year-old has carved out a successful career as a broadcaster with TNT and Sky Sports in their coverage of the sport.

Robson was most recently part of Sky’s US Open presenting team, and has appeared as a pundit at several global tennis tournaments.

What is Laura Robson’s new role?

It now appears the junior Wimbledon champion is set to branch out, with a surprise switch to a sport she has never covered before.

TNT are thought to have offered Robson an on-the-ground reporting role for England’s trip Down Under for a five-match series against Australia.

This follows the news that TNT had won the rights to Australia’s home international summer on a one-season deal.

It remains to be seen if Robson will take up the broadcaster’s offer, with the Sun reporting she is yet to make a decision.

Robson will likely not be the only non-cricket specialist to work for TNT during the Ashes, who are thought to be considering using some of its regular commentators from other sports for live action.

According to the Guardian, former England cricketers Sir Alastair Cook and Steven Finn are also being lined up for punditry roles.

Robson has strong links to Australia, having been born in Melbourne to Australian parents, before moving to England aged six.

Despite a gap on her cricket CV, the Olympic silver medallist has broadcasting experience outside of tennis.

She covered last year’s Paris Olympics for TNT, and is expected to cover next year’s winter Olympics in the Italian Alps too.

As well as taking on media work, Robson has also worked in tennis administration since her retirement, serving as a tournament director for the Nottingham Open in 2023 and 2024.

The Brit was appointed to the same position at the Queen’s Club this year, taking charge of the first women’s tournament at the London venue in over 50 years.

During her playing career, Robson managed to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon and the US Open.

At the London 2012 Olympics, she partnered Andy Murray in the mixed doubles, with the pair clinching silver after losing out in the final.

But injuries plagued her career, and persistent wrist and hip issues forced Robson to retire at the age of 28 in 2022.
