Travis Kelce is widely expected to hang up his cleats after the upcoming NFL season, but the Kansas City Chiefs tight end said he’s still got plenty of gas left in the tank.
Kelce, 35, who has one year left on his current contract with the Chiefs, spoke to the media in Brazil on Thursday, September 4, ahead of Kansas City’s season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo on Friday, September 5.
“I’ll tell you what, I’m feeling young and I’m feeling ready to rock, baby,” Kelce said when asked if the upcoming year will be his “last dance.”
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who joined Kelce for the press conference, couldn’t help but comment on Kelce’s slimmed-down physique.

“I mean, look how loose that shirt is,” Mahomes, 29, said. “He looks great.”
Kelce smiled and said, “This thing was a little tighter last year.”
The Chiefs superstar dedicated himself to getting in shape this offseason, renting a house in Boca Raton, Florida, where he made fitness a priority.
A noticeably thinner Kelce discussed his weight loss at Chiefs minicamp in June, responding to a report that he was down 25 pounds.
“First of all, I never said that,” Kelce said. “Don’t believe all you read on the internet, guys. Alright?”
However, Kelce did acknowledge that he’s “down some weight from the end of the season last year.”

“Each year’s different, man,” Kelce told reporters. “You gotta rebuild it. This year, got some time to really focus on some form running and some things early on in the offseason that I just didn’t have time for last year. Certainly feeling good, and I think it will pay off.”
There was some speculation that Kelce would retire following the Chiefs’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX in February, but the tight end announced his return later that month.
“I think the biggest thing is that I f***ing love playing the game of football,” Kelce said on his “New Heights” podcast in March. “I love playing, I still feel like I can play at a high level. And possibly at a higher level than I did last year, I don’t think it was my best outing. I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them, especially if you look at my track record and how I’ve been in years past. I just, you know, I wanna give it a good run.”
The Chiefs and Chargers kick off at 8 p.m. ET on Friday, September 5, exclusively on the NFL’s YouTube Channel and NFL+.
