There is currently very little to separate the top four favourites for this season’s Super Bowl as the new campaign promises to be one of the toughest to predict in recent years.

The Baltimore Ravens head into the opening weekend as marginal favourites to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the first time in 14 years under the leadership of star quarterback Lamar Jackson, and face off with fellow contenders the Buffalo Bills in a blockbuster opening game of the campaign on Sunday night.

Priced slightly behind, the Bills, who famously lost four straight Super Bowls in the early 1990s and still hold the unwanted record for most appearances without a victory, are being widely tipped as strong competitors this season. Many believe Josh Allen could finally steer them to a long-awaited first title.

The Philadelphia Eagles, who are joint second favourites alongside the Bills, are aiming to become back-to-back champions for the first time in their history, with quarterback Jalen Hurts and star running back Saquon Barkley leading the charge.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs remain ever-present threats. Having reached five of the last six Super Bowls and appeared in seven consecutive AFC Championship Games, they can never be overlooked, even if they sit just outside the leading trio as fourth favourites.

Last season’s NFC top seeds, the Detroit Lions, are also tipped for another deep play-off run. After falling at the divisional round last year, they will be desperate to go at least one step further this time around.

The Green Bay Packers have strengthened their roster with the arrival of Micah Parsons — arguably the league’s top defensive player — alongside the continued growth of quarterback Jordan Love, as they chase a first Super Bowl triumph in 16 years.

Finally, the San Francisco 49ers remain perennial contenders. Seeking their first Super Bowl crown in 32 years, they have reached two of the last six finals and four NFC Championship Games in the past six seasons, and once again look well-placed for a strong campaign.
