As tradition dictates, the Super Bowl winners open the campaign with the Thursday night curtain-raiser, and this year it’s the Eagles setting the tone in a blockbuster NFC East clash.

Nick Sirianni’s side, stacked with one of the league’s deepest and most balanced rosters, will be hoping to carry the momentum from last season’s triumph. Philadelphia went 14-3 in the regular season before storming to Super Bowl glory, scoring 40+ points in the title game for the first time since their own 2017 success.

Pre-season brought a mixed bag for the Eagles, finishing 2-1 with victories over Cincinnati and the Jets either side of a low-scoring defeat to Cleveland.

Their offense is spearheaded by quarterback Jalen Hurts and star running back Saquon Barkley, who last year shattered the single-season rushing record en route to being named Offensive Player of the Year after racking up 20 touchdowns in as many games.

The Cowboys, meanwhile, enter a new era under head coach Brian Schottenheimer, tasked with improving on last season’s 7-10 finish and guiding the franchise back into the playoffs after a one-year absence.

Dallas still bear the scars of losing defensive talisman Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers — a move that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history but left the Cowboys’ defense looking vulnerable.

On offense, however, there is reason for optimism. The addition of wide receiver George Pickens to link up with CeeDee Lamb gives Dak Prescott — now fully fit again — some serious firepower, though last season’s fragile run defense remains a major concern, especially against a back of Barkley’s caliber.

Philadelphia dominated both meetings last year, cruising to 34-6 and 41-7 victories, and Sirianni’s men will look to put on a similarly ruthless display in front of a raucous home crowd. For Schottenheimer’s Cowboys, it’s a daunting opening test in one of the NFL’s most heated rivalries.
